Park preservation group to hold annual meeting Jan. 29

January 19, 2026

Preserve Our Park coalition will hold its annual meeting at 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, at Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. The public is welcome to attend.

President Elaine Simmerman will present a review of 2025 POP activities and updates on Cape Henlopen State Park projects. The meeting will also include elections of board officers and directors. Light refreshments will be available.

Following the brief business meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with POP board members and fellow supporters who share a love for Cape Henlopen State Park. Local elected officials and Matt Ritter, parks and recreation director for the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, will also be in attendance.

After the meeting, at 5 p.m., the Lewes library will host a Shine a Light event where Ritter will be interviewed by POP board member Sally Boswell, with questions from Lewes Mayor Amy Marasco, WRDE news co-anchor Madeleine Overturf and Cape Gazette reporter Bill Shull.

The discussion will explore important topics including:

• Overcrowding in Delaware state parks

• Future parks and recreation plans, and their potential environmental impacts

• Improving safety and mitigating bicycle traffic on park paths

• How Delaware Senate Bill 6 influences future planning

• The role of SB 6 and the Warner Grant in parks and recreation initiatives.

Organizers welcome others to attend who believe Cape Henlopen State Park is a special place that should remain natural and protected.
