Patricia Monaghan, 88, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026.
Patricia was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., the beloved daughter of Thomas and Sarah Gengo. She carried her Philadelphia roots with pride throughout her life and was deeply connected to the values of family and service to the community that were instilled in her from a young age.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Donald Monaghan, with whom she shared a loving life and family. Patricia was a proud and loving mother to four children, Craig (Mary Lou), Sharon (Brad), Gayle (Tom) and Todd (Loni). She found great joy in her role as grandmother to Abbie, Amanda, Kara, Shannon, Connor, Rand, Kyle, Bethany, Ryan and Kiron, and great-grandmother to Gus, Bliss, Charlotte, Imogen and Wyatt.
Patricia graduated from Little Flower High School in Philadelphia, a place that remained close to her heart. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an active member of the Garden Club.
Service to others was central to Patricia’s life. She devoted more than 25 years to volunteering with Delaware Hospice, offering comfort, compassion and companionship to patients and families during their most difficult moments. Her generosity of spirit and quiet strength touched countless lives.
Patricia was a gifted artist who created beautiful hand-painted china, and her creativity extended into her gardening. She spent countless hours tending to her spectacular backyard garden that was truly enjoyed by everyone around her.
Above all, Patricia will be remembered as a warm and loving woman with a witty spirit and a gentle heart. She had a way of making people feel welcome, seen and cared for. Her kindness, humor and devotion to family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Saturday, Feb. 28, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 Kings Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia’s memory to Delaware Hospice, in appreciation of the compassionate care she so deeply valued.
