Pauline L. Silar, talented artist

January 10, 2020

Pauline L. Silar, 97, of Rehoboth Beach passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at her home.  She was born Feb. 22, 1922, in York, Pa., daughter of the late Charles and Marcella (Keener) Alwine.

Mrs. Silar owned and operated Silar's Ceramics, supplying Lancaster County's Amish stores with traditional Pennsylvania Dutch ceramics. She was a multifaceted artist of unbelievable talent, from oil painting to photography, and she loved her craft. Mrs. Silar was a member of the Rehoboth Art League and a charter member of the Women in Arts in Washington, D.C.  She was a voracious reader, and enjoyed casinos and the beach, particularly fishing on the boat with her husband by her side and taking the kids crabbing off the bridge.

Most of all, Mrs. Silar cherished time spent with her family; especially with her grandkids and great-grandkids.  She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Silar was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lorin G. Silar Dec. 25, 1995; and her son, Vaughn G. Silar, Dec. 25, 2003.  She is survived by her daughter, Daughn L. Silar of Rehoboth Beach;  her grandchildren: Deborah Silar Hickman of Atlantic Beach, Fla., and Vaughn G. Silar Jr. (Kimberly) of Red Lion, Pa.;  her great-grandchildren: Joshua Hickman (Holly), the Rev. Matthew Hickman, Karissa Silar, and Quentin Silar; and her brother, Richard L. Alwine (Madge) of York.

Services will be private.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Silar's memory to the Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres, DE 19971.
