Pecan tree sprouted when Teddy Roosevelt was in office

November 18, 2025

The following letter was sent to Royal Farms with a copy provided to the Cape Gazette for publication.

A big, beautiful and historic tree is growing on your Milton property just as it has for about 120 years.

There’s a movement in Milton to ask you to consider saving this wonderful part of our history. It has been featured on local television stations, and letters have been published in the local newspaper asking you to save it.

A tree expert with more than 40 years of experience says this would be a very easy save. The tree will have to be trimmed back some and there should be no paving under the drip line of the tree (about a 40-foot circumference around the trunk). You would only lose about five parking spaces.

This tree sprouted when Teddy Roosevelt was president. It’s an important part of our heritage in historic Milton.

I would like to ask you to do everything possible to save this tree. It would really be an asset to Royal Farms. You would be preserving our history, and the shade would be valuable on a hot summer day.

Please let me know if this is something you will consider.
