Local Rehoboth Beach artist Terry M. Isner will present his new exhibit, PEZ- A World of Sweet Love, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Saturday, July 2, at CAMP Rehoboth on Baltimore Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.
True to his past, Isner continues to use pop culture to tell stories, and his latest show does exactly that by using PEZ dispensers as his characters and models. Isner describes the show as “a photographic mash-up of cultural events, politics, shameless product endorsements, and PEZ.”
This summer’s show at CAMP Rehoboth is an evolution of the first PEZ show he did three years ago. “My first PEZ show was so popular that I knew I had to do it again, but this time a wanted to create more of a fashion shoot set allowing me to use a white or black back drop so that the story pops,” said Isner. His photographs are unique in that they don’t look like photos; they look like illustrations or screened prints. There are 16 pieces in the show featuring presidential candidates, Angry Birds, superheroes, My Pretty Pony, Red Bull, Budweiser and Star Wars to name a few.
Isner’s work is inspired by music, movies, TV, social events, consumer branding and pop culture. “I love to intertwine the commercial world with graphics, toys, cartoons, fonts, iconic images, colors and shapes for whimsical story telling,” he said. “Every day I get to be creative. I own a successful marketing, branding and PR agency so naturally I infuse my love for branding and advertising into my art, and I enjoy breaking through the noise professionally by incorporating my love for all things pop into my blogs, articles and client campaigns,” Isner said.
With titles like “Pork and Beans,” “No Girls Allowed“ and “Father of the Bride,” the exhibit is sure to be a super-fun show that creates a lot of smiles.
This is Isner’s ninth solo show and his fifth at CAMP Rehoboth, where his Superhero Comic Commerce show was a huge hit last summer. CAMP Rehoboth is no stranger to the local art world and hosts monthly shows that Isner has helped curate, in addition to exhibiting his work. Isner has donated several pieces over the last 15 years to the CAMP’s fundraising events such as the Black and White Ball, HeART of the Community and Sundance. Isner has also donated his work to several other fundraising events around the country.
