Philadelphia man faces drug charges following Dairy Farm Road traffic stop
A Philadelphia man faces felony drug charges following a traffic stop May 20 near Lewes.
A trooper on patrol at 9:32 a.m. saw a driver of a Subaru Crosstek cross the solid double-yellow line of southbound Dairy Farm Road south of Route 9 to pass slower traffic on the left, said Sgt. India Sturgis of the Delaware State Police.
The trooper pulled the car over and smelled a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle, Sturgis said. When the trooper contacted the driver, John Romano, 45, he produced a large quantity of cannabis oil, Sturgis said. As Romano was showing the containers of cannabis oil, she said, the trooper observed numerous large vacuum-sealed clear plastic bags containing large amounts of what appeared to be marijuana inside the vehicle’s passenger compartment. The trooper observed this amount of marijuana to be greater than the personal-use quantity, Sturgis said.
Romano was taken into custody without incident. An inventory search of Romano’s vehicle revealed about 175 grams of marijuana, 6.7 grams of hash oil, 23.3 grams of cannabis oil, 13.3 grams of cannabis edibles and 7.19 grams of cocaine. Romano was transported to Troop 7 and charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and felony possession of a controlled substance tier 1 quantity. Romano was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on $3,500 unsecured bond.
