Pink Ribbon Open House to celebrate breast cancer survivors Oct. 22

October 16, 2018

Beebe Healthcare’s Robert and Eolyne Tunnell Cancer Center will host its inaugural Pink Ribbon Open House for breast cancer survivors from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at Tunnell Cancer Center. The open house is free, but online registration is required; go to www.pinkribbonopenhouse.eventbrite.com.

“Over the last several decades, many strides have been made in the advancement of breast cancer treatments. With more survivors than ever, it is with great pride that we are able to honor those in Sussex County who have fought this disease. With survival, however, comes the responsibility of maintaining well-being. This survivor celebration will guide participants through the steps needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle – including nutrition, exercise and stress-relief techniques,” said Judith Ramirez, EdD, Tunnell Cancer Center manager of oncology population health.

The open house provides the opportunity to meet and greet breast cancer specialists as well as network with other survivors. A variety of health and wellness workshops will be offered every half-hour. Numerous vendors will be available to offer tips on health, wellness and fashion, and free flu shots will be offered. There will be food and musical entertainment. Drawings and prizes will be awarded throughout the event.

“To my fellow cancer survivors, we got through this and are stronger because of it,” said Cindy Beaver, breast cancer survivor and local Livestrong coach.

Beebe Healthcare is partnering with Pink Ribbon Boutique to celebrate survivors of breast cancer and showcase ongoing supportive services available, including the latest in mastectomy and lymphedema products.

“We are grateful to all of the individuals and organizations who have agreed to join in this special celebration of life,” said Ramirez.

This event also offers an opportunity for breast cancer survivors to provide input to further develop and shape the future of the Beebe Breast Center. Beebe Healthcare is the only health system in the state with an NAPBC-accredited program that ensures the quality of imaging, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship services to those in its community.
