The Beebe Medical Foundation and the Jean & Joan Cancer Fund recently kicked off planning efforts for the 15th Annual Jean & Joan Cancer Fund Annual Charity Golf Tournament and charity auction to take place Monday, Sept. 29, at Kings Creek Country Club.
Beebe Medical Foundation President and CEO Judy Aliquo, CFRE, and Director of Development Tom Protack led a Beebe team that met with Jean & Joan Cancer Fund President James Martin, tournament co-chair Vicki Tull, and other committee members at Kings Creek Country Club.
“What is unique about this charity event run by the Jean & Joan Cancer Fund is that it is a local tournament, run by local residents, with proceeds benefitting local cancer patients at Beebe’s Tunnell Cancer Center in Rehoboth Beach,” Martin said.
After last year’s tournament, the Jean & Joan Cancer Fund donated $25,000 to the Beebe Medical Foundation for cancer patient care at the Tunnell Cancer Center. The organization donated $22,000 following the 2012 event.
“The Jean & Joan Cancer Fund every year has made meaningful contributions that enable us to provide quality services to local cancer patients and their families.” Aliquo said. “Beebe is strongly committed to focusing attention on women’s health issues, particularly with respect to treating and preventing breast cancer through the work at our Tunnell Cancer Center. The contributions the Jean & Joan Cancer Fund makes each year greatly support this work.”
Since its founding in 1999, the Jean & Joan Cancer Fund has donated $380,000 for cancer patient support at the Tunnell Cancer Center. The fund donated $90,000 in 2013 alone for recliners and for the purchase of new computer Workstations on Wheels that allow nurses to remain at a patient’s bedside for patient care and charting. Previously, it purchased for Tunnell three patient transport vans and other emergency and diagnostic equipment.
In 2007, the Jean & Joan Cancer Fund joined the center in creating a Patient Special Needs Fund. It has also funded construction of a scenic wall in the Tunnell Healing Garden and established a library and center for fitting cosmetic and prosthetic devices for recovering cancer patients.
“We are grateful to the many businesses and professionals who sponsor our tournament, held each year at Kings Creek Country Club, and to the many individuals who play,” Martin said. “We look forward to their continued participation and another successful tournament on Sept. 29.”
