Please open the beach parking lots

April 3, 2020

I certainly understand the need to close the beaches in Delaware. What Gov. Carney saw at Herring Point was people threatening their own lives and the lives of others because they refused to follow the social distancing guidelines. I regret the need to close the beaches, but understand that he needed to do so.

What concerns me is that in Cape Henlopen State Park, the parking lots are also closed as are the Lewes Beach lots, including the Roosevelt Inlet lot.

During this enormous crisis, we older people (and some younger ones) enjoy driving to get out of our sequestered homes.

We especially enjoy being able to see water - the bay as well as the ocean - and we stay in our cars enjoying the view. It is a soothing and calming experience at any time, but especially during these troubled times.

With the parking lots closed, we cannot enjoy this needed break.

It seems to me that the park personnel and the city of Lewes could effectively close the entrance paths to the beach without closing the parking lots.
