Progressive Democrats of Sussex County hosted a dinner and legislative update at Fish On! June 10.
Chair Joanne Cabry began remarks by lauding ACLU Delaware’s efforts in aiding Rehoboth Beach commissioners to support a special events ordinance which protects Delawareans’ rights to free speech and spontaneous peaceful assembly.
In a moving tribute to the late PDSC Vice Chair Sam Deetz, Cabry said, “[Deetz] spent his life fighting for justice and equality.”
Deetz’s husband Jim Ziegler presented a $1,000 check in Deetz’s memory on behalf of PDSC to ACLU Delaware Interim Director Dave Brever.
Attendees were then updated by Brever and ACLU Delaware staff attorney Karen Lantz, on an expansive package of bills that aim to slow the problem of over-incarceration in Delaware and promote more fairness in Delaware’s criminal justice system.
