Racial justice alliance awards Rehoboth Elementary students
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently honored Rehoboth Elementary students Juelle Finney and Larry Oliver for their leadership, improvement, effort and excellence.
Third-grader Juelle Finney likes math, especially multiplication and division, and loves being a scientist conducting investigations in class, say teachers Robin Graviet and Stephanie Collick. Juelle said she fondly remembers her kindergarten teacher because of Fun Fridays, and she likes her third-grade teachers because their activities help her learn new things. When not in school, Juelle likes to ride her bike through her neighborhood. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up.
Third-grader Larry Oliver enjoys math and feels that is his best subject. He said learning with the Kahootz platform is fun. Larry likes to play with his friends at recess, and when not in school, he likes to play video games with his next-door neighbor. He wants to be a police officer when he grows up, and he wants people to be safe and follow the speed limit. Teacher Scott Pierce said Larry is a very kind and respectful young man who has worked hard to overcome many obstacles to get where he is today and is a true pleasure to have in class.
Each student received a $20 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth and the book, “The Highest Tribute: Thurgood Marshall’s Life, Leadership, and Legacy,” by Kekla Magoon. SDARJ contributes $15 to each gift card, and Browseabout contributes $5.
SDARJ’s education committee initiated the award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, effort and excellence in their schools. Two students from each school in the Cape Henlopen School District will be recognized. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs and advocates for racial justice, equality and fair opportunity. For more information, go to sdarj.org.
