RAL to present first 2015 salon: Art of Landscape Design Feb. 26

February 6, 2015

In 2013, the Rehoboth Art League began featuring salons, creative and intellectual gatherings in the homes of inspiring hosts. The salons feature vibrant art-related topics with one or more guest speakers followed by discussion. These events have increased in popularity and spurred requests for additional topics to be featured.

The first Salon of 2015 Thursday, Feb. 26, will feature guest speaker Libby Zando, who will discuss the Art of Landscape Design. Zando is owner and chief designer of Zando Designs Inc., a design/build firm specializing in fine home and garden projects. Zando Designs projects can be seen in the finest coastal area neighborhoods, and many have been featured in prominent magazines including Renovation Style, Better Homes & Gardens and Delaware Beach Life.

Zando learned her hands-on skills in a family of experienced builders, gardeners, stone masons and artists. She received a degree from the University of Maryland in applied design and later received a master of fine arts with a full scholarship and teaching assistantship in painting and sculpture. Zando worked as a construction designer and estimator for a prestigious company in Washington, D.C. prior to moving to Delaware. She is a firm believer in integral indoor and outdoor spaces. Her designs often bring the outdoors into the indoor spaces, a great asset during the winter months.

Barbara Carrow will host this event at her beautiful Milton home from 6 to 8 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres, wine and other beverages will be served. Space is limited, and preregistration is required. Tickets are $50 per person and are available at rehobothartleague.org/events or by calling the Rehoboth Art League at 302-227-8408.

Three additional salons are scheduled during 2015. Tickets are also available online.

• Art of Aboriginal Culture - Thursday, April 16: Diana Beebe will host this salon and discuss her extensive collection of Aboriginal art, its history and background.

• Art of the Dish - Thursday, June 18: Join Cape Gazette food columnist Denise Clemons in her Wolfe Pointe home as she demonstrates the art of the plate.

• Art & Antiques of the 16th-21st Centuries - Thursday, Oct. 15: Artist Alan B. Tuttle will discuss his odyssey of collecting fine art and antiques, and creating masterworks and curiosities from around the world.

The Rehoboth Art League is a membership-based nonprofit arts organization dedicated to teaching, preserving and inspiring the arts in the region. These programs are made possible, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
