Reading the Gazette at the edge of the world

October 5, 2022

In early September, Chris Noonan Sturm of Lewes went on a week-long kayaking and wine/port tasting trip down Portugal’s Douro River. After taking the train to Lisbon, she traveled west to Sintra and Portugal’s ruggedly beautiful Atlantic Coast. She is shown here reading her trusty Gazette at Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Europe with a lighthouse that dates from 1772. Often called “the edge of the world,” Cabo is directly across the ocean from Lewes. The latitudes are almost identical (Cabo = 38.780 and Lewes = 38.774). Did you see her wave?
