Reasons to run marathons and the stories to back them up

Messages on T-shirts, a library of revelations
December 12, 2019

There were 2,600 reasons to run on the roads and trails between Rehoboth and Lewes Dec. 7, and the backstories are all about relentless motivation and personal salvation.

This is the goal-setting crowd seemingly never satisfied. Runners who can’t go fast decide to go farther, and if one half marathon is an accomplishment, running 100 is a thousand times better. There were several 50-marathons-in-50-states travelers at the 2019 Rehoboth Seashore Marathon and Half Marathon, and plenty of folks who are wingmen running to give others a push.

There are elite men and women in the crowded field. They bunch at the front and all but four winners will be beaten by someone just a little faster on a given day. Harrison Toney, 26, of Richmond, Va., won the marathon in 2:27:38. His wife Kerri, 24, won the women’s title in 2:55:37. Junior Creekmore, 27, of Wilmington won the half marathon in 1:12:47, while the women’s title went to Veronica Eder, 24, of Doylestown, Pa.

The GPS tracking system is impressive; just punch a name into the system and you can see where a runner is on the course and their predicted finish time.

Tons of data is available; just Google search Rehoboth marathon results.
