Rehoboth Art League to host opening reception Sept. 30

September 21, 2022

The Rehoboth Art League invites the public to an opening reception for its four new exhibits from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30, at 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres.

In the Corkran Gallery, RAL presents DSU Creatives, celebrating the artists who teach with an exhibition devoted to works from the art faculty at Delaware State University. The exhibit represents the diversity of works these educators create, showcasing mediums including digital paintings, graphite drawings, anamorphic acrylic, fiber art and mixed media. Featured artists in this exhibition are Hazel Bradshaw-Beaumont, Lori Crawford, Guy Miller, Jennifer Gunther and Roberta Tucci.

Photographers Kathryn Harris, Suzanne Kricker and Brook Hedge combine their individual eyes to create a unique collection of the same subject photographed from different perspectives. In Six Eyes: Common Vision, the three women’s gazes explore inner feelings, beauty, lights and textures that presented themselves during the dark times of the pandemic. This show will be housed in the Tubbs Gallery and is a product of the unique times brought on by the circumstances which led people’s collective sight to seek new meaning.

The Ventures Gallery will display whimsical iron works from L. Morgan Kelley in her solo show, So I Go Through. In this show, each work of metal draws an image on the wall of a creature, exploring its interaction within some physical and emotional environment. These works transition through moments, cumulatively revealing a piece-by-piece narrative of a navigation toward increased presence and engagement. Kelley’s works embrace dimensional playfulness with their quirky design and imagery.

For more than 80 years, photography has played an integral part of not only documenting the early years of the Rehoboth Art League’s development but also as an increasingly accessible artistic medium. To celebrate this, the Homestead will showcase images captured by members of the Camera Club, a group formed by William Horn and organized at the art league in 1952. Through the Lens: A Photographic History of the Rehoboth Art League will include images never before seen.

The exhibitions are free and open to everyone during the regular gallery hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday.
