Rehoboth Beach Historical Society celebrates 20th Beach Ball

October 18, 2025

The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society wrapped up its 20th annual Beach Ball fundraiser with three days of celebrations Oct. 9-11, bringing together food lovers, wine enthusiasts and community supporters.

The weekend kicked off Oct. 9, at The Pines Coastal Tavern with a six-course dinner crafted by Chef Lion Gardner. Each course was paired with wines selected by sommelier Tyler Townsend.

The next night, guests gathered at the Cambria Hotel for a Bin 66-sponsored wine masterclass led by advanced sommelier Claudia Chamberlain. She guided attendees through 12 Italian wines – from sparkling whites to deep reds – sharing stories about the regions, grapes and winemaking traditions behind each bottle.

"I learned so much," said RBHS Executive Director Heidi Nasstrom Evans. "The Barolo was probably everyone's favorite, but I was most surprised by a light red from Mt. Etna with its beautiful earthy flavor that comes from the volcanic particles in the soil there."

The main event at the Cambria Hotel Oct. 11 featured cocktails, food stations and dancing to The Funsters. The silent and live auctions included a standout prize: an eight-day European river cruise donated by Accent on Travel and Viking Cruises.

"The funds we raise at the Beach Ball are vital for running the museum," said Board President Roger Truitt. "This year has brought unprecedented programming excellence with our most ambitious exhibitions and educational offerings reaching thousands of community members and visitors."

Rehoboth Beach Historical Society director Alex Papajohn chaired this year's event, working with museum staff and volunteers to coordinate the three-day celebration.
