Over the course of the last 15 months, Rehoboth Beach Patrol’s headquarters underwent a dramatic transformation – from a one-story, cinder block building that shared common walls with public restrooms and had few amenities to a two-story building with those much-needed amenities. The lifeguards still share the space with the public restrooms, but they’re now on different floors. It went from a brown building that could barely be seen from the beach or the street to a red-and-white beacon announcing the purpose it serves.
For various reasons, it didn’t always look like the project would get done by Memorial Day weekend, but the contractors and tradesmen worked in all weather conditions – sun, rain, snow, cold, heat, fog, wind – to get the project completed on time.
The following photos were taken over the course of construction, from the fifth floor of The Admiral on Baltimore Avenue, one of the neighboring properties to the south. What these photos don’t show is all the hard work taking place inside the building.
