Religion in Art series continues March 8 at Groome Church

March 3, 2023

Religion in Art: Christ’s Journey to the Cross, a six-week lecture/discussion series, will continue through Wednesday, March 29, at Groome Church in Lewes.

Participants will explore how great master artists chose to represent some of the milestone events in the life of Christ. The series takes a look at a variety of artists from different historical periods, including works by Bening, Bloch, Bida, El Greco and van Dyck.

The free lecture series is open to the public and includes a complimentary soup and sandwich lunch. Sessions are held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday, March 8, 15, 22 and 29. To reserve a space, call 302-645-6256 or email gumc@hotmail.com.

Commenting on the series, Groome’s pastor, the Rev. Dr. S. Willard Crossan III, said, “I was fortunate to grow up in a family where interest in the arts was encouraged, both studying the arts and/or at least developing an understanding and appreciation for them. Having had the opportunity to study abroad, I was doubly fortunate to see works by many of the great masters including some of the pieces we are discussing in the series.”

Groome Church is at 601 Savannah Road, Lewes. To learn more, visit groomechurchlewes.org.
