Renove Med Spa keeps clients looking good

November 23, 2010

Billy Crystal once said it is better to look good than to feel good, but one Rehoboth Beach business is asking the question, “Why not do both?”

Renove Med Spa provides nonsurgical medical procedures for men and women looking to enhance their appearance without the risks of surgery.

Dr. Michelle Parsons started Renove Med Spa in 2006 and recently moved the practice to its new location near the traffic circle at 416 Rehoboth Ave.

“This is the first medical spa ever in Rehoboth Beach,” Parsons said. “What we are targeting is treating the whole patient: mind, body and spirit. That’s kind of our philosophy. We help with, obviously, physical beauty, but also inner beauty.”

Renove Med Spa offers services to remove acne, laser treatments, peels, Botox, body treatments and waxing, among others. The spa also has a chiropractor on staff and two estheticians. Parsons said massage therapy is also offered.

For brides seeking that perfect look on their wedding day, Renove has wedding service packages that include facial treatments, with photography and wedding setups.

In addition, Parsons said, “We have a nutrition program. We’re able to test people for their vitamin levels – vitamin D, vitamin C – and so we can also offer a nutrition counselor for them to do weight loss.”

For the mind, Renove offers counselors for therapy sessions; a psychologist is available.

“These are FDA-approved medical treatments but in a setting that is a little more comfortable for the patient. It’s not white, sterile, clinical,” Parsons said.

She said finding what is right for the patient involves dialogue between doctor and patient.

“I always ask people, when they look in the mirror, what are their concerns? What bothers them? And based on what they tell me, there are things that I can offer them. What would be the best thing for you? What we can do is not only make the skin look healthier, but be healthier,” Parsons said.

Parsons is board certified in emergency medicine and has had training in general surgery, where she learned reconstructive burn surgery. She served four years in the Air Force as a flight surgeon, flying around the world as part of a flying unit, setting up clinics. She finished her medical training at Christiana Hospital and worked as an emergency room doctor at various hospitals around Delmarva.

Parsons got into private practice because, she said, “I wanted to have more control over what I could offer for clients. It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was 5 years old. I just wanted to take care of people’s health in a preventive way. My goal was to always be in general medicine, family practice.”
