Richard Bailey sculpture exhibit at Smyrna Opera House through Nov. 23

November 15, 2016

Delaware born sculptor Richard H. Bailey has an art exhibit at the Smyrna Opera House's third floor gallery through Wednesday, Nov. 23. Bailey served as a board member for Smyrna Opera House for 10 years during its restoration and reopening.

He started sculpting in his Smyrna High School art class, where he carved a head bust of Dwight Eisenhower (a distant relative), from a cow's salt lick block. He went on to study sculpting stone at the Delaware Art Center, and in Vermont, New York City and Italy.

This new exhibit includes carved marble and onyx birds and ducks, a mosaic of semi-precious stones and a unique metal whimsy which includes a carved marble butterfly.
