Richard Jay Warren, veteran, keen entrepreneur
Richard Jay Warren, 93, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at Delaware Hospice in Milford. He was born July 27, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late William Seligman and Julia Levine.
Richard answered the call to serve his country and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he furthered his education at MIT, where he met his wife, Vivian Warren. Richard then went as a business graduate at NYU. He started his career by working for Omega Watch Company, a job that propelled him into the business world.
A keen entrepreneur, he owned one jewelry store in NYC. After he sold his jewelry store, Richard’s artistic and creative talents were reflected in his crafting of fine jewelry that he designed in his new store, in Westchester, N.Y. After many dedicated years, he and his wife retired in Delaware in 1999. Richard believed that one should stay active and be invested in the community, and he continued working part time for some local jewelry stores. Never one to stay idle, he was also a proud member of the Jeweler's Association, always grateful to share his passion with the members whenever the opportunity presented itself. Richard enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends above all. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Richard is survived by his wife, Vivian Warren; his children, Judith Warren of Sterling, Va., Beth Agard (John) of Gaithersburg, Md., Katheryn Warren (Peter) of Wilmington, and Rabbi Wendy Ungar, DDiv. (Wendy Mohr) of Columbus, Ohio; his grandchildren, Bill (Melanie) of Framingham, Mass., Jonah (Stephanie) of Seattle, Wash., Vincent (Amanda) Agard of Austin, Texas, Erik Agard of Kansas City, Mo., Melissa and Sasha Jernakoff, and Rami, Adi, Maya and Liat Ungar, all of Columbus; and his great-grandchildren, Lily Hazel and Shoshanna Zimmerman.
Final care for Richard has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Richard’s memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or an animal organization of choice.
