Rodriguez and McKenzie overall winners at Blue-Gold All-Star 5K

The 16th running of the Blue-Gold All-Star 5K June 8 on the Irish Eyes course at Lewes Beach attracted 161 runners. The top 19 ran under a 7-minute pace.

Martin Rodriguez was the overall winner in a time of 17:24. He was followed closely by Reginaldo Hernandez in 17:48 and DJ Farren in 17:58.

Mike Sewell placed fourth and was top masters runner with a time of 19:23. He was followed by Chris Stanley in 19:36, Mike Marciano in 19:38, Moiber Rivera in 19:52, Caleb Bradley in 19:54 and Beau Croll in 20:32.

Shannon McKenzie, a 40-year-old electrician from McKees Rocks, Pa., placed 10th and was the overall women’s winner in a time of 20:39. Joining McKenzie on the top 10 list for women were Faith Mitchell in 20:57, Kelly Tingle in 21:04, Susan Dunn in 21:15, Mardiny Ung in 22:21, Jackie Quigley in 23:47, Kim Geyer in 23:47, Kelly Serpico in 23:52, Jen Perry in 24:08 and Constance Bean in 25:00.

Some notable local age-group male winners included Robbie Myers, 0-9, 28:51; Bennett Brumbley,10-13, 21:03; DJ Farren, 14-19, 17:58; Mike Marciano, 30-34, 19:38; Bill Holdsworth, 55-59, 21:14; Rick Poppleton, 65-69, 21:37; Jules Woodall, 70-74, 25:02; and Jack Huxtable, 80+, 29:33.

Notable female age-group winners were Rebekah Yanacek, 20-24, 30:23; Jen Perry, 45-49, 24:08; Nina Smeltzer, 60-64, 26:40; Joann Szczepkowski, 70-74, 27:38; and Jamie Wollard in 52:21 and Marge Warshauer in 53:09 placing in the top two for women 80 and over.

Next weekend is the Triple Crown Series for the Seashore Striders, beginning with the Georgetown Public Library 5K Friday, June 14; the Milton Irish Eyes Dash Saturday, June 15; and the Father’s Day 5K Sunday, June 16.
