Route 9 crash snarls traffic

March 30, 2023

A three-vehicle crash March 29 on Route 9 near Old Vine Boulevard injured three.

The crash happened at 3:11 p.m. when a 2011 Honda Accord driven by a Millsboro man, 24, heading westbound tried to pass a 2012 Honda Civic, but clipped the left side of the Civic, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

After hitting the Civic, he said, the Accord went into the eastbound lanes and hit a third car, a 2017 Toyota Highlander, that was traveling eastbound.

The Millsboro man was flown to an area hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. DeMalto said traffic charges are pending against him.

The man driving the Highlander and his female passenger, both 63 and from Lewes, were taken to an area hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the Civic, a Milton woman, 35, was not injured.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 9 were closed for nearly two hours.
