After three straight losses, the Delmarva Christian girls’ basketball team got back in the winning column with a 49-42 victory over Red Lion Christian Jan. 24 in Georgetown.
Royals senior Eve Bohinski led the scoring with 24 points, with 15 coming in the fourth quarter. She also snagged 13 rebounds, three steals and a block. Sophomore Avery McCoy dropped 16 points. She added four rebounds and two assists. Freshman Addison Price had five assists and four steals.
“I guess we all decided to fight hard today,” said Bohinski, who hit 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch. “The team really gave 110% effort today. We were tired in the third and fourth quarter, but I kept getting energy from going to the line and making foul shots. We had a great effort today. It was a great win for us.”
McCoy said her team needed to regain confidence.
“Last year, they beat us, and it was a hard process to come back in this game after losing three straight games,” she said. “We all had to regain our confidence. I think this will help us get it back.”
Royals head coach Frank Roach said the three straight losses could be due to a long break between games.
“It’s hard to get back in the swing of things,” he said. “We had a big break, but weren’t able to have the full team at the practice. Once we came back from J-Term, we had players sick. Now that we have a few games under our belt, it will get better. I knew Red Lion was going to be a battle from what they had from last year. Avery got us going and Eve finished it off for us.”
Red Lion’s Aniya Freeman led the Lions with 25 points.
