Royals volleyball downs Lake 3-0

The Delmarva Christian volleyball team defeated Lake Forest 25-19, 25-22 and 25-11 as part of All Sports Day Oct. 2 at the Royals’ campus in Georgetown.

Tessa Kwiatkowski led the way for the Royals, putting up 14 assists and bumping six digs. Lily Fetterman had a 13-dig day along with an ace from her libero position. Makayla Heinrichs had 12 assists. Senior Sierra Troyer powered eight kills, nine digs and two blocks. Freshman Elaina Millaway knocked down six kills, while bumping 11 digs and slamming three aces. Olivia Giltner knocked seven kills while roofing two blocks. Evelyn Jensen was credited with two kills and three digs. Ellie Millaway and Emily Jones shared five kills, three blocks and four digs.

“It was nice to see our team committed to playing great defense all match,” said Royals head coach Jim Berger. “It was also the most balanced offensive performance of the year to date. I’m very proud of this great bunch of young ladies.”

Karly Cain led the Spartans with 12 assists and three blocks. Emily Walker had eight kills and four digs. Hannah Druart scored five kills and two aces. Jenna Troyer roofed five blocks. Jalyne Bailey had three blocks and four digs. Payton Parson had two blocks.

The Royals travel to Sussex Central Tuesday, Oct. 5, while the Spartans travel to Milford.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
