Run Delaware at The Jefferson School gets students on the move

September 30, 2011

The Jefferson School’s physical education coach, Nancy Berg, has integrated geography, math and physical fitness to help students get motivated to move.

Berg has developed Run Delaware, an incentive program where students accumulate mileage equal to either the 35-mile width of the First State, the 96-mile length or the sum of the two. Each run will be tallied over the course of the school year as students record their distances. They will be charting their course on a map of Delaware earning charms to be added to a fitness bracelet as they complete different legs of their journey across the state.

Each run takes place on the 3/4-mile trail which winds around The Jefferson School campus. It is not a race to a finish line but a way for students to chart their own personal fitness growth in a creative and fun way.

The Jefferson School is located on 43 wooded acres in Georgetown and strives to provide innovative academic programs that foster an enthusiasm for learning.
