I’m saddened. But I understand.
I recently learned that the Cape Gazette altered its election endorsement policy. In January it announced, “The volume of repetitive letters received were being engineered by candidates and party representatives to serve as political advertising and took away precious space for local news stories. Moving forward, endorsements of political candidates will not be accepted.”
It is important for the public – voters – to know as much about their possible decision-makers, including their views on issues that could affect the people they will represent. It’s regrettable that some people have abused the process, prompting this newspaper’s decision.
I have been active this year, promoting two candidates I believe will serve our community to its best advantage. As I have done in past years, I have invited friends and neighbors to my home to meet and converse with candidates to learn more about their positions and goals. Each has a website that details their positions and goals. We had a great event this past weekend.
