Santa arrives in Lewes via Cape Water Taxi
In a truly unique way, Santa Claus arrived in Lewes Nov. 27 riding on the Cape Water Taxi in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Waiting for him at the city dock were Lewes Mayor Ted Becker, Lewes Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Betsy Reamer and his helpers, elves who also serve as Lewes Ambassadors. Also waiting was a large crowd in 1812 Park that escorted Santa to his house at the corner of Second Street and Bank Street in downtown Lewes.
Santa will be in his house the following times and dates: 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, during Hospitality Night; 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2; 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8; 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11; 1-3 p.m., 5-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17; 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18; and 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22.
Santa’s arrival kicks off the Christmas season in Lewes with the 34th Hospitality Night in downtown from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, and the 89th annual parade at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4. Lewes Lights has planned an opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 3, on Manila Avenue to kick off its second season.
Also on Dec. 4, the Lewes Historical Society will host an outdoor holiday village and marketplace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its main complex at 110 Shipcarpenter St., and the Lewes Chamber will debut its virtual Christmas Tour of Lewes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, featuring 10 venues decorated for the holidays.
