Scores of Cape students featured at Rehoboth Art League

Beacon, Love Creek, Milton, Rehoboth, Shields participate in Young at Art exhibition

Scores of Cape district students participated in the Rehoboth Art League Young at Art exhibition, with several artists earning awards and scholarships.

Held March 12-27 in the Corkran and Tubbs galleries, the Young at Art exhibition is an annual event presented in collaboration with local schools. The exhibition features a selection of artwork created by students in what is often their first opportunity to have their work displayed in a gallery.

Each year, the Rehoboth Art League awards a variety of cash and scholarship prizes to outstanding works, including Tom Wilson Award for Best in Show, James Kenneth Derrickson Memorial Scholarship, VIA Awards of Excellence, Howard Pyle Studio Group Awards of Excellence, Picasso-O’Keefe Awards, Lee Wayne Mills Awards and Delaware College of Art and Design Scholarships.

This year’s Derrickson Memorial Scholarship winners included Zephania Dudley, H.O. Brittingham Elementary; Kamyra Jackson, Shields Elementary; Leah Cooper, Milton Elementary; Beall Flynn, Love Creek Elementary; and Alisa Tsirtsan, Beacon Middle.

Beacon Middle students Reilly Choma and Violet Matas received Picasso-O’Keefe Promising Young Artist Awards, while Olivia Way received the Howard Pyle Studio Group Award of Excellence Honorable Mention.

Local participating schools included Beacon Middle, Delmarva Christian, East Millsboro Elementary, Indian River High, John M. Clayton Elementary, Long Neck Elementary, Love Creek Elementary, Millsboro Middle, Milton Elementary, Rehoboth Elementary, Shields Elementary, Southern Delaware School of the Arts and Sussex Academy.
