SDARJ awards scholarships

July 29, 2025

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently awarded $1,500 scholarships to four Sussex County students as part of its annual Charlotte King Scholarship program.

Named for SDARJ’s founder, the program recognizes Black and African American students from Sussex County who are continuing their education beyond high school and have demonstrated concern for furthering racial understanding and justice, qualities of citizenship and leadership, and service to their school and community.

The selected students are Olunifemi Anawo and Taryn Harris of Sussex Central High School, Ricardo Bruinton Jr. of Milford High School and Ayreonna Hudson of Cape Henlopen High School.

For 2025, the Charlotte King Scholarship program received generous donations from James Emrich, Nancy Powell, and Raymond and Lisa Graff.

SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs and advocates for racial justice, equity and fair opportunity in area communities. For more information, go to sdarj.org
