Seaside Pet Salon and Spa opens on Savannah Road

New groomers offer spa-style service for pets.
June 21, 2012

Since Seaside Pet Salon and Spa opened its doors last monty, spa owner and business manager Karen Gibbons said the pet grooming business in Lewes Plaza has been pretty doggone good.

"My daughter had gone to grooming school and worked as a groomer," Gibbons said. "I was looking for a new business venture, so we sat down one day and went over the numbers and decided we could do it on our own."

After working out the business details through the off-season and renovating their storefront space near Five Points, including the addition of a marble bathing room, the mother-daughter team of Karen and Chelsea Gibbons hired an additional groomer and in May, they opened the doors at Seaside Pet Salon and Spa.

Offering special services such as soaks for dry, cracked paws, facials, nail trims, nail painting and even hair-dye options that are safe for pets, groomer Chelsea said she is eager to meet the adventurous owner and pup who are ready to make a statement with hair dye at the pet salon.

“We really want to try the hair dye out here, but nobody’s been brave enough yet,” Chelsea said. “So we’ve just been dyeing our own dogs.”

The groomers have kept busy offering more standard grooming services such as haircuts and nail trims along with a recent grand opening celebration to offer free paw manicures including painted nails.

Chelsea said so far she’s enjoyed the freedom of caring for her clientele at her own family business establishment.

“We are able to come up with our own ways of doing things,” she said. “It’s a friendly environment.”

In addition to the new marbled bathing room the pet salon features a large open space for pets.

Fellow Seaside groomer Cassie Yost said the new accommodations and mellow atmosphere at Seaside Pet Salon may be her favorite part about her new job. The facility is relaxing for the staff and most importantly, the clientele.

“I walk in here, and I feel happy. It’s very open,” Yost said. “The pets are much more relaxed in this type of environment than being caged up.”

Seaside Pet Salon and Spa is open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, call 302-644-1272.
