Seaside Scribes publish book for women’s charities

November 9, 2019

For the third year, the award-winning Seaside Scribes, a dedicated group of women writers from the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild and the Worcester County Library Ocean City Writers Group in Maryland, have come together to publish an anthology for charity.

“Seaside Scribes: Women Writing, Women Rising” is a collaboration of 34 local authors formed to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and arts programs for women. The anthology is curated and edited by Kathleen Martens, a Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild member and resident of Rehoboth Beach. Martens said, “The collection of over 50 enthralling and uplifting poems, essays and short stories were excavated from the memories and creative imaginations of women rising up."

Proceeds go to fund scholarships and programs for women writers through the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild, and breast cancer charities and arts programs through the Art League of Ocean City, Center for the Arts. The book is featured as the literary arts component of the month-long women's arts exhibition, RISE, curated by artist Deborah Rolig.

Maribeth Fischer, executive director of the Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild, said, “It is no exaggeration to say the writing scholarships resulting from the Seaside Scribes anthology sales have been life-changing for many of our members.”

Books are available from Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach, Amazon and other online booksellers. To purchase directly from Kathleen Martens, email SheWritesEditor@gmail.com.
