Selbyville woman receives P.E.O. continuing education grant

October 22, 2019

Lewes P.E.O. Chapter L recently presented a continuing education grant of $1,200 to Samantha Rose Fissel of Selbyville.

Under P.E.O. International, the need-based grant program provides one-time financial assistance to women whose education has been interrupted and who intend to return to school to complete a degree or certification that improves their ability to enter the workforce with a marketable skill set to support themselves and/or their family.

In December 2019, Fissel will graduate from Wilmington University with a 3.95 GPA and a degree in organizational management with a minor in entrepreneurship and small business management. She is active in Alpha Beta Gamma business honor society and Sigma Beta Delta business honor society. Her goal is to open her own small business consulting firm or to obtain a position in corporate management.

Lewes P.E.O. Chapter L members were impressed by Fissel’s work ethic, resilience and ambition. Despite two interruptions in obtaining her undergraduate degree, she was not deterred. She works as an office manager integrating her knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications in order to successfully handle over 2,000 accounts while completing her degree course work.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded Jan. 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing to women increased opportunities for higher education. There are approximately 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with nearly 240,000 active members. Chapter L, Lewes, was organized in May 1999.

Lewes P.E.O. encourages more applicants to apply for the various types of grants and low-interest loans currently available. For more information, call Chapter L President Nancy Braybrook-Walma at 302-983-0146 or go to www.peointernational.org.
