October 29, 2021

The state senate released its final redistricting map Oct. 25, moving Slaughter Beach back into the 18th district.

The 300 residents of Slaughter Beach had been moved into the 16th district in the draft proposal, but after residents expressed concern during public hearings, the area was moved back into the 18th district.

Other changes were made to Wilmington districts, and alterations were also made in Kent and Sussex counties with fast growing districts, officials said.

“We took input from the public to heart and seriously considered every recommendation,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Dave Sokola, D-Newark, as he called on his colleagues to support these maps when the General Assembly votes Monday, Nov. 1.

As of the Cape Gazette’s press time, the final House map had not been released.
