Seven H.O.B. students awarded summer scholarships to The Factory

May 13, 2018

Seven students who attend H.O. Brittingham’s after-school program were awarded summer camp scholarships to attend The Factory in Lewes. The awards were presented at the conclusion of their March 28 performance of “The Jungle Book.”

The after-school program is set up so students are able to participate in programs that provide academic enrichment and experience in the performing arts. Students also can participate in clubs and have access to extra homework help during the after-school hours.

“The students awarded with the scholarships were hand-picked by our Nike volunteers,” said Melissa Mulveny, a fifth-grade teacher at H.O. Brittingham. “They were selected for their positive attitudes, their demonstration of great sportsmanship and their athleticism.”

The Nike volunteers were a new addition to the after-school program this year, and they attended each week starting in September. They worked with students in the areas of sports, movement and healthy living.

“We previously only offered our after-school program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, but decided to add an additional day this year,” said Mulveny. “Our students are fortunate to have been able to participate in this partnership with Domineque Scott from the nonprofit United Through Sports. Domineque was able to work with her partners, The Factory and Nike, to provide us with the volunteer staff to make this program possible.”

Students receiving the scholarship will have the opportunity to participate in sports-related camps this summer at The Factory. Programs for basketball, football and multi-sport camps are all available throughout June, July and August.
