Returning for a second year, Shanty Fest events will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 8, and from 1 to 7 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at the Historic Lewes Town Campus, 110 Shipcarpenter St.
This year’s festival will feature 10 bands performing traditional and contemporary sea shanties, along with craft beer, maritime-inspired art and historical demonstrations that highlight Lewes’ deep connection to the sea.
Kicking off the weekend Friday will be a VIP event with recognized band The Dreadnoughts and acclaimed performer Sean Dagher presenting a high-energy acoustic set.
Saturday’s main event will feature performances across multiple stages, culminating in a headlining set by The Dreadnoughts. Additional acts include The Johnson Girls, The Jolly Tars, The Susquehanna Shantymen, Labor Jawn and Ship’s Company Chanteymen.
Beyond the music, Shanty Fest offers a lively mix of experiences celebrating Lewes’ maritime heritage through music, art, food, refreshments and hands-on history.
“Last year, the response exceeded our expectations,” said Andrew Lyter, Historic Lewes curator of maritime history/director of external affairs. “Shanty Fest brings together music, history and community in a way that reflects Lewes’ maritime heritage while creating something vibrant and new.”
