Sharon Maria McDowell, bus company owner

Sharon Maria McDowell, 73, of Bridgeville passed away at home Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was born May 20, 1948, daughter of the late Adolph and Anna May (Hurlock) Cyr. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McDowell was predeceased by her brother, Roger Hubbard.

Mrs. McDowell was owner and operator of the K & S School Bus Company where she built a lifetime career, retiring after 30-plus dedicated years. Mrs. McDowell was a member of the Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville, member of the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company, Bridgeville Historical Society and Bridgeville Lions Club. She had also served as president pro tempore, as well as president of the Bridgeville Town Council. In her spare time, Mrs. McDowell enjoyed keeping in touch with her family and friends on the phone. Above all, she was renowned for her delicious fudge making abilities, which was a secret she kept in the family. Mrs. McDowell was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 40 years, Kenneth L. McDowell; her children: Tina Abbott ( Charles Shane), Derek McDowell, Bo McDowell (Khristina) of Bridgeville; her siblings: Alfred Hubbard of Baltimore, Md., Linda Shanahan of West Virginia, Parris Cyr of Federalsburg, Md., Paul Cyr of Hurlock, Md., Mary Alcorn (Robert) of Federalsburg Joe Cyr (Jody) of Seaford and David Cyr (Crystal) of Seaford; her grandchildren: Coby Abbott, Tana Rafail, Cade McDowell, Alexa McDowell, Kaylee McDowell and Brienna McDowell.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m., at Union United Methodist Church, 2 N Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may visit beginning at noon. Burial will follow at Bridgeville Cemetery. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing protocols and the use of masks are strongly advised.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Mrs. McDowell's memory to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org.
