Shawn Bodio earns black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

January 28, 2016

Shawn Bodio, head coach and owner of Rip Tide Martial Arts, received his promotion to black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Jan. 25. It was awarded to him by his coach in Philadelphia, John J. DiSimone III, under the watchful eye of seven-time world champion Xande Ribeiro.

Bodio has been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 10 years, which is the average amount of time for people to train before earning their black belt. During those 10 years, Bodio has won two NAGA World Titles and a Grapplers Quest World Series Championship, and he is an American National Champion.

In addition to his own successes, he has also coached his students to numerous victories and championships, most notably with Harry Metcalfe, who won gold at the prestigious 2015 Pan Am Championships and the London Open.

This promotion makes Bodio the first and only practicing and teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt in Sussex County.
