Sherry Lynn Butler, one-of-a-kind personality

June 24, 2025

Sherry Butler, lovingly known as “Dallas” to all who knew and cherished her, passed away peacefully at her Lewes home Wednesday, May 28, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 62. Her beloved wife Cindy, and faithful friend and hospice nurse Murt Foos, were at her side for her journey.

Dallas was born June 7, in Annapolis, Md., and spent most of her early years in Odenton, Md. She served in many positions throughout her adult life, including as an auto body technician and house painter.

She was an avid Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan, with a love for all people, dogs, babies, music, dancing and all things fun.

Dallas and the love of her life, wife Cindy, shared nearly 16 years happily together.

She was a passionate volunteer with American Legion Post 17 and Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540. She will long be remembered for selling 50/50 raffle tickets, announcing, "Yabba-dabba-do, I've got a 50/50 for you!"

She could never say no when help of any kind was needed.

Dallas had a unique ability to connect with people and make friends instantly. She was well-known for a quick, beaming smile and great bear hugs to all, many of whom she called "sweetheart." Her friendly personality and gentle ways of making everyone feel so welcome and wanted were her special gifts. Her passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of the many individuals whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity.

She is survived by her wife Cindy; her 93-year-old mother Doris Weed; siblings Harold Weed and Sheila Creed; son Jason Butler; granddaughters Shelby Butler and Jaylin Butler; and two great-grandchildren.

All her friends and family are invited to raise a glass, share heartfelt memories and pay tribute to an extraordinary person at a Celebration of Life from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, July 13, in the hall of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge, 18544 Beaver Dam Road, Lewes.

In order to accommodate all those whose hearts were touched by Dallas' warmth, humor and love, RSVPs are requested by email to joylynnschreck@gmail.com.
