A sigh of relief

June 11, 2021

The Philadelphia Phillies won this week's series with the Atlanta Braves. They did it with two consecutive walk-off wins. I hope they can continue their momentum on Saturday and Sunday against the New York Yankees who are struggling as much as the Phillies are so far this year. If the season ended today, Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler would get some National League Cy Young votes. He has clearly been the Phillies’ best pitcher.

The European soccer championships are starting now. This will be a good preview for the World Cup next year in Qatar. Most of the games will be on the ESPN family of networks. I will be watching as much as possible. Go England. Finally, the US National Men's Soccer team had a good week beating Mexico 3-2 and Costa Rica 3-0 in "Friendlies" that were pretty hard fought. I hope they can continue this good progress into World Cup qualifying which starts soon.

I’m bummed that I haven't watched much of the French Open tennis, but I don’t have the Tennis Channel anymore, and the tournament is only on national TV during the two weekends. As usual on the men’s side, whoever wins the match between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the semifinals will probably win the tournament. I will at least get to watch the final matches on NBC.

I will report on the NBA playoffs next week for sure. Have a good weekend.
