SnoYo brings gourmet frozen yogurt to Five Points

New shop offers 14 flavors, dozens of toppings
July 9, 2012

Eating a cool and creamy treat is a good way to beat the heat, and now gourmet frozen yogurt fans can indulge to their heart’s delight at SnoYo in The Villages at Five Points.

“We opened at noon on Friday, June 15, as soon as owner-occupancy was allowed,” said Karen Friedhaber who co-owns the store with husband, Marc.

Customers help themselves to SnoYo’s 14 frozen yogurt flavors that can selected one flavor at a time, or two flavors can be blended at one machine, or all flavors can be blended.

In addition to vanilla and chocolate, there’s peach mango tart, wild strawberry, thin-mint cookie, butter pecan, New York cheesecake, red velvet, peanut butter, cake batter and sea-salt caramel. Flavors will change periodically.

She said about 150 ready-made flavors are available and they can also add their flavors to vanilla yogurt to create their own custom flavors.

Yogurt selections are weighed at the cash register and sold for 41 cents an ounce. “We don’t think that price is going to change any time soon,” said Michael Friedhaber, store manager.

There are more than 75 toppings, including Oreos, gummi worms, Twix, Snickers, hot caramel and hot fudge. The variety of toppings is going to continue to increase,” Karen Friedhaber said.

She said yogurt is delivered to the store frozen and kept that way until they’re ready to pour it into the machines to serve.

“It comes in a container like a milk jug. After it’s poured into the machine, it’s brought down to the correct temperature and kept stirred and at the right consistency,” Friedhaber said.

SnoYo is a one-of-kind store, but Friedhaber said they’d see how business goes with the single store before considering franchising.

Lewes-based Moonlight Architecture did the store’s colorful interior design, and Ocean Wide Designs in Ocean View did its playful logo.

The store is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. “But on a busy weekend, we have been known to keep the doors open after 10,” Friedhaber said.

SnoYo is next to Food Lion at The Villages of Five Points, near Lewes. For additional information call 302-827-2838.

The store’s internet website is being constructed but for now, Facebook subscribers can go to Facebook.com/snoyoyougurt for additional information or to comment, Friedhaber said.
