Southern Delaware Tourism 2023 photo contest opens Jan. 1

December 18, 2022

To celebrate Southern Delaware and keep it top of mind throughout the winter with visitors planning 2023 travel, Southern Delaware Tourism is launching its seventh annual photo contest.

Both locals and visitors are invited and encouraged to enter. Entries will be accepted from midnight, Sunday, Jan. 1, through 5 p.m., Friday, March 10. Winners will be announced Friday, March 24.

There will be one grand prize-winning photo as well as one winning photo in each of three categories, Southern Delaware Watersports, Southern Delaware Farmer & Foodie, and Southern Delaware Boardwalk Scenes.

Model releases are required if a photo contains recognizable likenesses of individuals. Entries must have been taken in Sussex County and photo locations must be included with submissions.

From the Atlantic Ocean to its sparkling bays and other waterways, Southern Delaware is a playground for watersports enthusiasts of every stripe. Southern Delaware Watersports entries may show people partaking in paddling, kayaking, kiteboarding, surfing, skimboarding, jet skiing, parasailing, swimming, fishing, crabbing and more. All photos must include at least one person.

Agriculture and aquaculture are very big deals in Southern Delaware, making the Culinary Coast both scenic and delicious. Southern Delaware Farmer & Foodie photos may depict many agricultural attractions including farmers markets, farm stands, flower farms or other farm visits; or show people enjoying farm-fresh dining in local restaurants.

Southern Delaware Boardwalk Scenes must include one of the bustling boardwalks lining Southern Delaware's Atlantic coast, riverwalks in Sussex County river towns, or a boardwalk trail through one of the gorgeous state parks, wildlife refuges or coastal marshes. A boardwalk is, and has been for centuries, an iconic coastal attraction.

Photo contest winners will be selected by Tony Pratt and Pamela Aquilani, photographers well known in Southern Delaware and beyond.

All eligible photo entries will be uploaded by Southern Delaware Tourism to its Instagram feed @VisitSouthDel with the hashtag #SoDelPhotoContest2023.

Southern Delaware Tourism organizers are grateful to the partners who generously provided the contest prizes. Hotel stays may be subject to restrictions. Winners must contact prize partners for restrictions and details.

The grand prize includes a two-night stay at The Inn at Canal Square in Lewes, a gift certificate for dinner for two at Grain on the Rocks near Lewes, a dolphin-watching tour for two from Cape Water Tours & Taxi, and a Delaware State Parks annual pass.

Prizes for the Southern Delaware Watersports category are a two-night stay at Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach, a gift certificate for two from Dewey Beach Parasail ($190 value), and a gift certificate from Delmarva Board Sports for a one-hour kayak rental for two ($60 value).

The Southern Delaware Farmer & Foodie category winner will receive a two-night stay at the Hotel Bethany Beach; tours and farm store gift certificates at two Sussex County farms, Four Acres Living and Brittingham Farms; and a $50 gift certificate for dinner at Good Earth Market and Restaurant.

The winner of the Southern Delaware Boardwalk Scenes category will receive a $500 gift certificate toward a stay at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, a Delaware State Parks annual pass, and a gift certificate toward dinner at Above the Dunes restaurant in Rehoboth Beach.
