The 2018 Special Olympics Delaware's overnight sports camp was held at Camp Barnes near Bethany Beach Aug. 4-6 where over 60 campers, 25 overnight counselors and 10 support staff enjoyed the annual camp experience. In addition 30 high school student-athletes attended the first day as part of their experience at the annual Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Leadership Conference.
The SODE camp is a three-day, two-night camp that provides traditional camp activities and sports activities and is offered to all registered Special Olympics Delaware athletes. Activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, Frisbee golf, basketball, archery, canoeing, boating, non-competitive games and many more fun filled activities are provided in a safe and pleasant atmosphere.
The second session will be held Aug. 12-14.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
