Banquet Sept. 22 at Grace Church in Georgetown
September 12, 2018

The Lower Sussex NAACP will hold its 20th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, at Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown. The public is invited to attend. This year’s keynote speaker is the Rev. Dr. John Moore Jr.

Organizers are embracing the words of W. E. B. Du Bois, who said, “Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season. It is today that our best work can be done and not some future day or future year. It is today that we fit ourselves for the greater usefulness of tomorrow. Today is the seed time, now are the hours of work, and tomorrow comes the harvest and the playtime.”

This year’s theme is Stand on the Power of Justice, reflecting the chapter’s primary goal for this year to encourage community members to become more politically involved. The Lower Sussex NAACP at the annual banquet honors individuals in the community who are continuously giving of themselves for the benefit of others. This year’s honorees are Doris Biles, Dannar Elzey, Jane Hovington and Myra Sampson.

Tickets to the Freedom Fund Banquet cost $35 per person or $15 for ages 10 and under. Checks may be made payable to Lower Sussex NAACP and mailed to Lower Sussex NAACP, P.O. Box 986, Georgetown, DE 19947. To purchase tickets, contact Louise Henry at 302-864-3269 or 302-990-5368. To purchase ads or become a patron for the program book, send copy to lowersussexnaacp@yahoo.com by Saturday, Sept. 15.

All are invited to enjoy a delicious dinner with friends, become acquainted with the NAACP and its members, and consider joining this historical organization.
