Spring Emergence show opens at Gallery One March 29

March 23, 2023

Gallery One announced its Spring Emergence show will be open to the public from Wednesday, March 29 to Tuesday, May 2.

Once the clocks spring forward, it’s time to watch for birds returning, trees budding, and butterflies and bumblebees buzzing around newly blooming flowers.

Celebrating the season’s colorful glory is artist W Scott Broadfoot’s oil painting, “Spring Emergence Bluebirds.” Delicate but vibrant green foliage surrounds a bluebird couple in azure and orange tending their newly made nest and future nestlings in their cerulean eggs. Robins, red-winged blackbirds and chickadees are all early to the party, while bluebirds prefer not to show up until winter is surely gone.

Gallery One has flowers in abundance this month. Among the firsts sign of spring, buds act as a shield for the delicate flowers inside. In artist Jill Glassman’s oil painting, “Just Peachy,” viewers see peach blossoms in gorgeous rosy pinks accented by pastel greens. “These are the blossoms on my neighbor’s peach tree that let me know the winter is over and warmer spring days are coming – and peaches, too,” said Glassman.

One of the earliest bloomers is the daffodil. In Cyndy Beyer’s pastel, "Hello Spring," their sunny yellows contrast with lavender. “Daffodils are one of my favorite flowers. These golden beauties are also a symbol of creativity, energy, resilience, forgiveness, vitality and prosperity,” she said.

Joyce Condry’s acrylic painting, “Poppy Field” illustrates that spring means flowers are here, and vice versa.

“Floral Delights,” an acrylic by artist Lesley McCaskill, brings a riot of color. “Peonies, allium and foxglove are a few of my favorites,” she said.

Dale Sheldon’s acrylic, “Spring at Longwood,” transports viewers to one of the region’s most beautiful gardens.

Laura Hickman’s pastel, “Spring Tulips," brings spring inside the home as a perfect antidote to long winter days.

Marybeth Paterson’s “Dreamy Beach Day,” illustrates that spring heralds summer, and sunny days under an umbrella by the sea are right around the corner.

Always staffed by an artist, Gallery One is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day at at 32 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View. Open hours extend to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 1.
