Stache Crawl in Dewey to benefit KJP Foundation July 13

Event to be held in memory of Kellen Poultney, Lenny Poultney
July 9, 2019

Stache Crawl 2019 will kick off at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 13, in Dewey Beach.

The Starboard Restaurant will serve as homebase to welcome hundred of revelers sporting mustaches to celebrate the life of Kellen Poultney and raise money for the charity named in his honor, The KJP Foundation.

Starboard owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery loves what the event means for Poultney’s friends and family who come out in remembrance. “We are all about having a good time and making people happy,” said Montgomery. “This is one of those events that makes everyone happy – with the mustaches all around the town, and people in their T-shirts, it’s impossible not to smile when you see everyone out!”

Poultney’s friends and family describe him as carefree and loving, and the day really brings that out in others. This year, the event takes on an especially somber yet celebratory tone as they also pay tribute to Kellen’s dad, Lenny Poultney, who unexpectedly passed away May 27.

Chad Minix, Kellen’s friend and lead organizer for the KJP Foundation and the Stache Crawl, said, “We will be honoring Lenny at this year’s Stache Crawl by using an ‘In Loving Memory’ baseball legacy-style patch in the T-shirt design.” Minix said Lenny, like his son Kellen, brought a lot to the people in his life, and his presence as a father, grandfather, husband and friend will be sorely missed.

Minix said, “Whatever Lenny was to you, please help us remember and honor a great man at this year’s event, as this will also be the first Stache Crawl when Lenny and Kellen will be smiling down on us together.”

The Stache Crawl is a traditional Dewey Beach bar crawl complete with specials at each location. Pictures of all the wild and crazy mustaches can be submitted through Instagram using the hashtag #stachecontest2019 with the corresponding categories, #traditional, #creative and #legit. The best of the best – six winners in total – will win gift cards courtesy of The Starboard.

All proceeds from the Stache Crawl go directly to the KJP Foundation, a charity with a specific focus on educating local children and supporting local families.
