Student musicians earn county, state and regional honors
In what is becoming an annual tradition, Cape High musicians have once again scored county, state and regional honors in choir, band and jazz band.
In addition to all-county and all-state chairs in band, jazz band and choir, several students were also named to the All-Eastern jazz and choir roster, which will perform Sunday, April 16, at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.
The All-Eastern ensemble includes students from Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Washington, D.C. To qualify, students had to have earned all-state the previous year.
Band Director Chris Burkhart said student accomplishments are very impressive.
“They had to practice by themselves and compete against the best in the state or region,” he said.
The Cape High concert band and choir were also invited to perform at Disney Springs in Orlando, Fla., at the end of January, when musicians attended workshops with a Disney performer.
