Studio E to be offered in Rehoboth

Epilepsy art therapy program
June 25, 2017

Studio E, an art therapy program for people with epilepsy, takes place this summer for children ages 7 to 12.

Offered through the Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware, the program is designed to create a sense of acceptance, empowerment, and support for children through a shared experience, said Val Budischak, executive director of Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware. Budischak said the program has been offered nationally and also in northern Delaware, but this marks the first time it is offered in Sussex County. The local program will be taught by Jennifer August, an art therapist who has an office in Lewes.

August said a variety of art media will be used to create meaningful and expressive art. Through an engaging, immersive, hands-on experience, participants learn to express what epilepsy means to them, she said, and the class also serves as a support group.

Free for participants, the class will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday evenings, June 21 through Aug. 9. Classes will be held at the Rehoboth Art League studio. Participants can still enroll by contacting Val Budischak at 302-999-9313 or vbudischak@efde.org.
