Sussex Academy elementary students explore varied careers

From paramedics to mechanics, and bank manager to head of school, several various occupations were featured during the annual Sussex Academy Elementary Career Fair May 29.

Students in grades three to five rotated in small groups throughout the gym, visiting tables hosted by professionals who presented information about their careers and fielded questions from attendees.

In the afternoon, students were treated to a K-9 demonstration by Delaware State Police canine handlers.

Visiting businesses and organizations that donated their time to meet with students are Tara Rhodes of BSD; Kim Benton of State Farm Insurance; food service manager Michael McDaniel; Coastal Equine owner Toni Thompson; environmentalist Josh Thompson; Jami Jackson of Gingham and Grace clothing; Derek Cathell of Delaware State Police; dog trainer Lori Leonard; conservationist Siobhan Kelley; Myndi Verderame of Shore United Bank; Courtney Jarunsinski of Home2 Suites by Hilton; Greg Tobias of Ocean Atlantic; Sussex Academy Head of School Kyle Bentley; paramedics Jordan Dattoli, Sean Cannon and Guy Peifer; mechanics Tyler Mears and Tim Lofland, assisted by Lyndsey Mears; Brandy Myers of Mental Wellness of Southern Delaware; Sussex Academy School Nurse Dawnyel Furlong; and Chad Morris of Delaware State Police.
