Sussex Academy students dive into ecosystems

December 15, 2025

Sussex Academy fifth-graders used their knowledge of ecosystems to create hands-on projects showcasing their understanding of the interactions between living organisms and their physical environment.

Students in Lori Houston’s science classes wrapped up their ecosystem unit by creating dioramas, posters and other projects depicting food chains to habitat models. They demonstrated a deep understanding of how matter cycles through living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem and how energy flows from the sun to producers, consumers and decomposers.

“We are so proud of the hard work and scientific thinking our students put into these projects,” Houston said. “Their curiosity and creativity truly brought our ecosystems to life!”

Sussex Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school in Georgetown.
